The Future of Autonomy
Autonomous vehicles are a controversial technology slowly making their way into our everyday lives and changing our perception of mobility. During the spring semester, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles came to our junior studio class with the question:
What will the future look like with autonomous cars?
A focus on supporting communities
How can autonomous vehicles support and help to grow existing communities?
In the future, we speculate that autonomous cars will be autonomous platforms: flexible, mobile agents that transport people and goods as well as transform our perception of ownership. Autonomous platforms owned by small communities
The beginning of our semester was spent doing user research in order to understand people's current perceptions of autonomy as well as the current role of cars in society and the lives of individuals. Our research into the future started out in the present, understanding how people currently use and think about mobility. Then, we moved onto future speculation; we took the values we found in the present day and researched into how technology and shifting societal trends would reshape community and transportation.

Storyboarding connected communities
What if we could call someone through our clothes? Do they pick up the call in an autonomous car? This storyboarding session helped us get creative and brainstorm in new ways with future technology.
Whiteboarding a high level service system of a hospital.
Storyboarding Services and Systems
A day-in-the-life scenario helped our team to envision how an individual could be supported by services that utilize autonomous vehicles. The scenario below begins to look at how these services could support an individual who
Final stop motion production
For execution of our video we chose paper stop motion complemented with animations in Aftereffects. The paper was laser cut and hand assembled.
